BAUM POTTERY OPEN HOUSE/KILN OPENING

This is, I promise you, my final post about this year’s open house. I end with a picture (taken by Paul Lauber) of Mike throwing and the wonderful Apollo cheese from Lamp Post Cheese in Lebanon that we will have as part of our refreshment (how appropriate to have Mike and the cheese pictured together!)

We hope we will see you this weekend at:

LAMP POST CHEESE

Apollo, Spanish Mahon style.

Lamp Post’s Apollo cheese is inspired by the Spanish cheese called Mahon. True Mahon is produced in the city of Mahon, capital of Minorca, a small island in the Mediterranean Sea. Theirs is a semi-soft cheese and, like all their cheeses, it’s made with locally sourced, raw cow’s milk. It’s pressed wrapped in the cheesecloth and the knot leaves a distinctive mark. During aging, they rub the rind with paprika and olive oil, which produces a rusty color. It’s smooth in texture with buttery and sweet flavors as well as a hint of chocolate.

OUR POTTERY

We make wheel thrown, functional and decorative stoneware pottery fired to 2400 F in a high efficiency gas kiln.

We feel that people who like art on their walls also like beautiful handmade pottery on their table.

We work from our home, our studio and gallery are open 7 days a week (please call 513-702-7995 or 513-673-8292, before you visit.)

Come by and see Mike demonstrating, purchase some pottery and be greeted by our beautiful Black Lab, Ducky.

MY INSPIRATION

Mike was introduced to clay while studying at the University of Cincinnati, it was love at first touch. He attended two sessions at Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina where he studied with Byron Temple. Byron suggested Mike try to apprentice with a  studio potter in England. He was accepted into a school in London then apprenticed with potters in Ireland and England. He was privileged to catalogue Bernard Leach's private collection of pottery.

Byron Temple, Bernard Leach, Shoji Hamada and Russell Collins are a huge influence on him.
